About Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park

Located in northern Tanzania, Lake Manyara National Park spans over a wide area that includes lush forests, savannahs, and the namesake shallow lake. It serves as a sanctuary for various species of wildlife, including elephants, hippos, and the famous tree-climbing lions. The natural beauty of the park is complemented by its geographical diversity, featuring acacia woodlands, grassy floodplains, and steep escarpments forming part of the Great Rift Valley. Established in 1960, the park is a key habitat for birds, hosting around 400 species, including flamingos attracted to the lake's alkaline waters. This dynamic ecosystem provides endless recreational opportunities such as game drives, walking safaris, and bird watching. The park is also steeped in cultural history, as it is home to the Maasai community, who have lived in harmony with the land for generations.
